With the competition and global reach of internet radio upon us, traditional FM radio - at least the public and non-commercial kind - is fundamentally changing and will have to keep doing so to survive. Many of of the pioneering FM ambient shows like Musical Starstreams, Music From The Hearts Of Space and Echoes have thrived and grown by simulcasting live on the net and hosting extensive archives. PROGRAM LIST A-Z Ambientassons - a twice-weekly radio show that's been running on Portuguese national public radio station Antena 3 since 1994. Hosted by DJ and producer Nuno Miguel. Blue Room - Long running show on BBC Radio 1 in the UK hosted by eclectic chill DJ's Chris Coco and Rob Da Bank. Below Zero - Downtempo radio show on Energy 92.7 FM San Fransisco and also streaming past shows at net station Live 365. Codos Traumreisen - Electronic ambient show from Germany heard on Dortmund FM station Eldoradio and streamed live online. Cosmic Eye - Ambient celestial spacemusic and new age sounds simulcast live on the net every Sunday night on American station 88.1 FM Wesu Middletown. Deep Intense - Downtempo & ambient music site based in Canada with an FM radio show, reviews, charts and ambient web directory. Echoes - long-running networked American public FM radio show hosted by John Diliberto. Music From The Hearts Of Space - this legendary North American FM radio show produced by Stephan Hill now has all of its one-hour broadcasts stored in an audio archive on-line. Musical Starstreams - home of the popular U.S. public radio show, hosted by DJ Forest from Waveform Records. Slackline Radio - various electronica and downtempo inclduing trip hop and nu jazz every Wednesday night on KRUA 88.1 FM in Anchorage, Alaska. Stars End - Founded in 1976, this is another one of the USA's pioneering ambient radio shows, 5 hours of music every Sunday morning from 1am to 6am on Philadelphia radio station WXPN 88.5 FM and streamed live on the net. Sirius Music - Saturday morning ambient show heard on VOX-FM Wollongong in Australia, hosted by Paul Headon and covering various forms of ambient, prog rock, relaxation, downtempo beats and world music. Ultima Thule - Sydney's longest running ambient radio show, heard on 2MBS-FM Sydney, 5MBS-FM Adelaide and Artsound-FM Canberra. The site includes a free MP3 audio archive of past shows and subscription info for Podcast downloads. I co-produced this show from 2001 to 2006.
