I have a lot of admiration for writers who maintain review sites and keep them going out of pure passion for the music. Over the years many sites have disappeared from the list below after they bit the dust for one reason or another.

If you run an ambient/downtempo/chill reviews site or blog and you're not listed here just send me a note and I'll add it to this page.

Artists please note: AmbientMusicGuide.com does not maintain a links page devoted to artist or record label websites. Please don't ask.

SITE LIST A-Z

All Music Guide - This is one of the biggest music resources on the net, but it should be approached with caution if you value independent opinions. Some artists are done justice with reviews by well-informed and credible writers, while other entries are hopelessly compromised with "reviews" obviously written by publicists, record companies or marketing copywriters.

Sleepbot / Ambience For The Masses - Excellent archive of artist profiles and reviews. All key players in the electronic ambient field are covered.

Ambient Visions - Features lightweight but still informative reviews of new releases. Coverage includes semi-obscure North American releases not reviewed anywhere else.

Epsilon - One of the web's oldest ambient music information archives.

EthnoTechno.com - Reviews of downtempo and global electronica with Asian flavours.

Hypnagogue - Recent reviews of new album releases dating from 2009, with an emphasis on classic/old-school ambience. Site owner John Shanahan is a terrific writer and knows where to unearth the gems.

Instinct Ambient - An excellent and thoroughly researched discography of the now-defunct American label Instinct Ambient, one of the great post-rave ambient techno/trance labels of the 1990's.

Morpheus Music - Contains reviews and interviews covering psy-ambient, enthno beats, exotic dub, and dark and environmental ambient.

Silent Records - Run by a devoted fan, this is an enlightening guide to the defunct San Francisco based label that helped define the first wave of new-school ambient music to come out of rave and techno in the 1990's. Includes an archive of the actual Silent Records website circa 1996.

Wind & Wire - One of the oldest e-zines devoted to reviews on a broad range of contemporary instrumental music.
