On his brilliant debut album Elementary Particles Evan Bluetech offers a striking and orginal take on the downtempo-electronica-with-psychedelic-undertones school of chillout. Around taut, muscular rhythms he weaves synthetic melody lines that punch and stab their way up through the mix, quite unlike the smoother world beat path trodden many of his contemporaries. Yet his music is not wantonly abrasive, either, as these sublime and richly textured beatscapes show. Although the album is rather short at 45 minutes most of the tracks clock in around the seven minute mark, allowing him to explore multiple themes across a single track.
